Watching Kirby stretch himself over an abandoned car and go roaring down a cracked highway is still one of the great delights of the Switch era. Kirby and the Forgotten Land, HAL Laboratory's first fully 3D mainline Kirby platformer, drops the pink puffball into the New World, the overgrown ruins of a vanished civilization full of rusting shopping streets, flooded coastlines and the crumbling Wondaria amusement park. The Beast Pack has carried off the Waddle Dees, and with the mysterious Elfilin at his side, Kirby sets out to bring them home.
Mouthful Mode is the game's showpiece. Kirby inhales objects far too big to swallow and wears them instead, becoming Car Mouth, Vending Mouth, Cone Mouth and more, each one solving puzzles or flattening enemies in its own ridiculous way. Classic Copy Abilities get a fresh layer too, since blueprints hidden in the stages let you evolve them at the weapons shop in Waddle Dee Town, a hub that grows livelier with every rescue. A second player can join as Bandana Waddle Dee for local co-op.
This Nintendo Switch 2 Edition runs the full adventure at a smooth 60 frames per second, double the frame rate of the original release, and adds Star-Crossed World. A strange meteor has crystallized the New World, and the crystals open new pathways through familiar places, from the ocean floor to the depths of Wondaria. Twelve new stages hide well-tucked Starries to collect, three new Mouthful Modes arrive in Spring Mouth, Gear Mouth and Sign Mouth, and the expansion builds to a brand-new final boss, playable solo or with a partner.
The Forgotten Land earned wide acclaim when it launched in 2022 and became a standout in Kirby's long history for proving the series could thrive in three dimensions. With the performance upgrade and the extra story in one package, this edition is the complete version of that adventure, and the one to reach for if you want to see a vending machine fire cans at a boss at full speed.
