Item Condition

Kirby Air Ride comes complete in box with the original Nintendo GameCube case, the game disc, and the original manual — everything you need to play and display this one just as it came from the store. Coolection tests every disc-based game before it hits the shelf, and this one was spinning up and playing as expected; discs are professionally resurfaced when needed so they deliver their best performance, though as with any vintage title, how it plays can depend a little on your setup and console. Item Description

Kirby Air Ride hands you a racing game with almost no buttons and then quietly dares you to master it. Kirby's machine accelerates on its own, so the A button does double duty: hold it to brake and charge a boost, release it to rocket out of a corner. Steering, timing that charge and reading the track are the whole game, and the depth hiding inside that one-button design is what keeps players coming back. Kirby can still inhale enemies along the course and copy their abilities mid-race, turning a simple lap into a scramble for the right power at the right moment.

Then there is City Trial, the mode that made Air Ride a legend among GameCube owners. Up to four players are dropped into an open city for a few frantic minutes, smashing boxes for stat-boosting patches, hopping onto faster machines, ramming rivals to knock their power-ups loose and hunting the three parts that assemble the legendary Dragoon or Hydra. Random events keep things wild, and when the timer runs out everyone is thrown into a surprise Stadium contest, from a Drag Race or Destruction Derby to Air Glider, Target Flight or a showdown with King Dedede, so every choice about how to build your machine is a gamble.

Air Ride mode offers traditional races across courses such as Fantasy Meadows, Magma Flows and Checker Knights, while Top Ride switches to an overhead view with compact, hectic tracks built for quick multiplayer bouts. Each mode carries a 120-square Checklist that reveals rewards as you complete specific challenges, turning idle sessions into long-term goals. Four players can share a split screen, and HAL made it the first GameCube game to support LAN play, linking up to four consoles through broadband adapters so each player gets a screen of their own.

Directed by Masahiro Sakurai at HAL Laboratory, the game began life as a Nintendo 64 project before finally arriving on GameCube in 2003. Critics were split at launch, but the friends who spent afternoons in City Trial never forgot it, and in 2025 Sakurai returned to the concept with Kirby Air Riders on Nintendo Switch 2. The original is where the whole idea started: a strange, generous, endlessly replayable party racer that plays best with four GameCube controllers and three friends who refuse to share their Dragoon parts.
