Item Description
Kira, Great Glass-Spinner changes how your opponents have to play against your creatures. Kira is a three-mana 2/2 flyer whose real job is to make every creature you control a headache to target. Each of your creatures gains a simple shield: the first time it becomes the target of a spell or ability each turn, that spell or ability is countered. Your opponent's removal suddenly costs double, because the first Doom Blade or Swords to Plowshares aimed at anything on your side is simply countered, Kira included, and they have to spend a second card to finish the job.
That protection includes your own spells, so auras, pump effects and equip abilities need a cheap first target before the real one lands. Equip twice or lead with a minor trick and the seal is broken. Built around properly, Kira's drawback barely shows, and her upside is huge in creature-heavy Commander decks that need their best threats to survive.
Jumpstart, the 2020 set of themed half-decks you shuffle together and play right away, brought her back to a new audience. This is the Jumpstart printing, collector number 154, a rare illustrated by Kev Walker, offered in non-foil. Kira originally appeared in Betrayers of Kamigawa, and Kev Walker's portrait of the great spirit made the trip with her.
