Item Description

Henry cannot read, has never held a real sword and barely knows which end of it to point when his village is burned to the ground in 1403. That is where Kingdom Come: Deliverance begins, and it is why the game hits so hard. Warhorse Studios built an open-world RPG around an ordinary blacksmith's son in early 15th-century Bohemia, present-day Czech Republic, and refused to give him dragons, magic or a destiny. What follows is a grounded tale of revenge, survival and identity set against a real struggle for the Bohemian crown, as Sigismund's invading army and its Cuman mercenaries tear through the countryside and Henry falls in with Sir Radzig Kobyla and the swaggering young lord Hans Capon.

Its commitment to realism runs through every system. Combat is a skill-based duel of directional strikes, timing, blocks and stamina, and a peasant with a pitchfork can still get you killed. Hunger, sleep, armor layers, clothing and reputation all matter, and a muddy, bloodstained tunic changes how people speak to you. Lockpicking, alchemy brewed by following recipes step by step, archery without a crosshair and swordsmanship all demand patience to master. Henry improves by doing, sparring in the yard, haggling at the market and even learning to read from a scribe, and watching him grow from a clumsy, unproven youth into a capable fighter is one of the most satisfying arcs in the genre.

The Royal Edition, released in 2019, is the complete version of the game, bundling the base adventure with its story expansions: From the Ashes, which puts Henry in charge of rebuilding a ruined village; The Amorous Adventures of Bold Sir Hans Capon; Band of Bastards; and A Woman's Lot, which tells part of the story through the eyes of Theresa, the young woman who saves Henry's life early in the story. Together they add many hours of quests, characters and new corners of Bohemia.

The world itself is a joy to wander. The forests around Rattay, the walls of Talmberg, the candlelit halls of Sasau monastery, where one memorable quest sends Henry undercover as a novice, all feel lived-in rather than dressed up. With Kingdom Come: Deliverance II continuing Henry's story in 2025, this is the place to begin his journey and the version that gathers the whole first chapter together.
