Item Description

The first time Henry draws a sword in Kingdom Come: Deliverance, he is terrible at it, and that is exactly the point. Warhorse Studios built this open-world RPG around a simple, radical promise: no dragons, no magic, no chosen one, just a blacksmith's son from the village of Skalitz trying to survive the real Kingdom of Bohemia in 1403. When Sigismund's Cuman mercenaries burn his home and kill his parents, Henry is left with a sword his father forged, a thirst for revenge and almost none of the skills he will need to get it.

Everything has to be earned. Combat is first-person and directional, built on angles of attack, parries, feints and the perfectly timed master strike, and it rewards hours of practice with Captain Bernard in Rattay far more than button mashing. Henry learns to read (he starts out illiterate), brews potions by hand at an alchemy bench, picks locks, hunts, mends his gear and has to eat and sleep like anyone else. At launch, saving leaned on Saviour Schnapps, a potion you brew yourself, which gave every risky decision real weight. Clothes get dirty, reputations follow you, and townsfolk notice when you turn up to speak with a lord covered in blood.

The quests are where the game shines. Henry is drawn into a struggle over the Bohemian throne alongside Sir Radzig Kobyla and the hard-drinking young lord Hans Capon, whose prickly friendship with Henry became a fan favorite. One standout mission sends him undercover as a novice in the monastery at Sasau, following the daily routine of prayer and chores while hunting for a fugitive hiding among the monks. Many problems can be solved with speech, stealth or steel, and the outcomes ripple outward. Castles like Talmberg and towns like Rattay are modeled on real places, and Jan Valta's orchestral score gives the forests and fields a sweeping, cinematic feel.

Crowdfunded on Kickstarter and directed by Daniel Vávra, Kingdom Come became a major hit with RPG players hungry for something grounded and demanding, and its success paved the way for Kingdom Come: Deliverance II in 2025, which continues Henry's story. Starting here is the way to meet Henry, Hans and 15th-century Bohemia as they were meant to be introduced, at the beginning of a saga that pays back patience like few open-world games do.
