Item Description
Kasmina, Enigmatic Mentor is a quiet bodyguard for your board. Spells your opponents cast that target a creature or planeswalker you control cost two more to cast, which turns cheap removal into a clunky investment and buys your key pieces precious time. For four mana and 5 starting loyalty, that tax sits there turn after turn.
Her only loyalty ability, −2, creates a 2/2 blue Wizard creature token, then you draw a card and discard a card. That gives you two activations of board presence and card filtering right away, which is a natural fit for Wizard-themed decks and for blue Commander decks that want to sculpt their hand while keeping threats safe. Kasmina first appeared among War of the Spark's uncommon planeswalkers, a cycle built around one static ability and one minus ability, and she is one of its more elegant designs.
This is the Secret Lair Drop bonus printing, collector number 507, illustrated by Magali Villeneuve, in foil. Villeneuve's painterly fantasy portraits are a favorite with collectors, and a foil Kasmina is a stylish way to give a mysterious mentor the spotlight.
