Our grade: Near Mint. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.
Item Description
Nobody gets to keep Karona for long. At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player untaps her and gains control of her, so this five-color, six-mana 5/5 with haste ends up taking a lap around the table every round. Whoever holds her on their turn swings, and whenever Karona attacks, creatures of the creature type of their choice get +3/+3 until end of turn.
That makes her pure multiplayer chaos with a strategic edge. A tribal deck gets the most out of every pass, because its pilot can name Elves, Zombies, Dragons or whatever the deck is built around and turn a single attack into a crushing alpha strike, while everyone else is scrambling to find a type worth pumping. Karona first appeared in Scourge in 2003, the final set of the creature-type-focused Onslaught block, and her ability is a perfect echo of that era. Expect long, loud games and plenty of table talk.
This is the Secret Lair Drop borderless printing, collector number 1624, illustrated by David Robert Hovey & Scott Okumura, in rainbow foil, a dazzling finish for a card that is literally a false god of every color.
