Item Description
Karmic Guide is a five-mana Angel that brings a friend along: when it enters, you return target creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield. Flying and protection from black keep it out of reach of plenty of removal, and while echo asks you to pay its cost again on your next upkeep or sacrifice it, in a recursion deck sacrificing it is often the whole point.
That's how it became a combo legend. Pair it with Reveillark and a free sacrifice outlet, and the two creatures return each other over and over, producing as many enters and dies triggers as you like. Reanimator decks prize it as a second way to pull a big creature back from the graveyard, and Commander players find homes for it in white recursion, blink and aristocrats decks.
First printed in Urza's Legacy in 1999, the Angel returned in a 2021 Secret Lair with new art by Johannes Voss and the wistful flavor line "Just one moment more." This is the Secret Lair Drop printing, collector number 281, illustrated by Johannes Voss, in non-foil.
