Item Description
Karakas has been sending legendary creatures home since 1994's Legends. It taps for white mana like any other land, but its second ability returns target legendary creature to its owner's hand, and it can do that every turn without costing you a card. Point it at an opponent's commander and they have to recast it; point it at the giant legend someone just cheated into play and they're stuck paying full price.
It works just as well as protection. Bounce your own legendary creature in response to removal or a board wipe to save it, or return it to reuse an enters-the-battlefield ability. Legacy players have long valued Karakas as a land-slot answer to Griselbrand and other legends dropped in by Sneak Attack or Show and Tell, and in Commander it slides into almost any deck that plays white without taking up a spell slot.
Eternal Masters returned Karakas to print in 2016, more than two decades after its debut. This is the Eternal Masters printing, collector number 240, illustrated by Drew Baker, in non-foil.
