Item Description

The best moments in Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights on the Nintendo DS happen sideways. Drift events reward you for sliding through corners at steeper and steeper angles, and chaining drifts across consecutive turns stacks up multipliers, so a clean run through a twisting section feels like landing a combo in a fighting game. It is the heart of a handheld racer that took the import-tuner scene seriously.

The career runs through ten leagues, climbing from Rookie all the way to HIN Elite, with Drift, Eliminator, Relay, Time Trial and Tournament events along the way. The handling is arcade-friendly, powerslides add real depth, and the nitrous boost is tuned well enough to fire through a bend without throwing you into the barriers. Tail a rival closely and you fill a "spook" meter that can rattle them right off the road. The courses run three to five laps and are loosely based on London, San Francisco and Rome.

Then there is the garage. The licensed roster includes cars from BMW, Audi, Ford, Honda, Lotus, Subaru, Toyota and TVR, and you can pour points into engine and performance upgrades or style your ride with paint, decals, trims and nitro enhancements. A Challenge mode and local ad-hoc multiplayer round out the package.

Published by THQ in 2007 and named for the Hot Import Nights car shows, the DS version of Juiced 2 earned solid reviews, including 3.5 out of 5 from Pocket Gamer, which singled out its drifting. It captures a very specific moment in car culture, when body kits, neon and tuned imports ruled racing games, and it is a portable snapshot of that era with more depth than most handheld racers of its day.
