Item Description

Here is a planeswalker who wants your library gone. Jace, Wielder of Mysteries carries a replacement effect that turns decking yourself into a victory: if you would draw a card while your library is empty, you win the game instead. Few cards make running out of cards feel this good.

He costs four mana with three blue pips and starts at 4 loyalty. His +1 mills a target player two cards and then draws you one; aim it at yourself and every activation drags you closer to the finish line while keeping your hand full. The −8 draws seven cards and then checks your library, winning immediately if it is empty. Pair him with self-mill engines and big draw spells and he becomes the clean end point of the whole deck, sitting on the battlefield where creature-based win conditions would be easier to remove.

This is the Secret Lair Drop printing, collector number 506, a foil illustrated by Anna Steinbauer, who also painted the card's War of the Spark debut. It was issued as a Secret Lair bonus card, which makes it a less familiar version to track down for a Jace collection.
