Magic: The Gathering single: Jace, Unraveler of Secrets. Our grade: Near Mint. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.
Item Description
Jace in profile, posed like a figure carved into a temple wall. For San Diego Comic-Con 2017, Magic dressed the Gatewatch planeswalkers in an Ancient Egyptian style drawn from the Amonkhet storyline, the block where the Gatewatch walked straight into Nicol Bolas's domain. The result is a Jace unlike any booster version, and a neat piece of convention history for anyone who collects the mind mage or the Amonkhet era.
Underneath the costume change is a sturdy five-mana control planeswalker. He starts at 5 loyalty, and his +1 scries 1 and then draws a card, so every turn he stays on the battlefield is a turn of steady card advantage. When a creature starts swinging at him, the −2 returns it to its owner's hand and buys more time. Keep ticking upward and the −8 emblem counters each opponent's first spell every turn, a lock that makes the rest of the game miserable for the other side of the table.
This is the San Diego Comic-Con 2017 printing, collector number 69, a foil illustrated by Vincent Proce, who painted every planeswalker in that convention set. It pairs naturally with the Gideon, Liliana, Chandra and Nissa from the same release.
