Item Description
Jace's Archivist is a Windfall stapled to a creature, and that makes it a menace at the Commander table. For one blue mana and a tap, each player discards their hand and then draws as many cards as the largest hand discarded, which means everyone gets a fresh grip as big as the biggest one at the table.
Because it is repeatable, the Archivist becomes the center of a whole strategy. Nekusar, the Mindrazer turns every one of those draws into damage, Notion Thief steals the cards your opponents would have drawn, and Narset, Parter of Veils or Leovold, Emissary of Trest leaves opponents discarding full hands and drawing just one card. Even without combo pieces, it punishes the player sitting on a stack of answers while keeping your own hand full. The flavor text sounds a note of devotion to its master: “This is a sacred duty. Master Beleren's trust has bought an eternity of my loyalty.”
This is the Commander 2015 printing, collector number 95, illustrated by James Ryman, in non-foil.
