Magic: The Gathering single: Jace's Archivist, from Commander 2013. Our grade: Lightly Played or better. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.
Item Description
Some wheels spin once; Jace's Archivist spins every turn. The three-mana Vedalken Wizard first appeared in Magic 2012, and its ability is as simple as it is disruptive: for one blue mana and a tap, each player discards their hand, then draws cards equal to the greatest number of cards anyone discarded.
That repeatable reset is a tool and a weapon. Empty your own hand and the Archivist refills it to match the biggest hand at the table; aim it at a control player hoarding answers and those answers hit the graveyard. Discard and draw payoffs make it lethal. Megrim punishes every discarded card, Nekusar, the Mindrazer punishes every draw, and any graveyard deck happily turns those discards into fuel for reanimation or flashback. It is a two-power body, so it rarely attacks, but it does not need to.
This is the Commander 2013 printing, collector number 48, illustrated by James Ryman, in non-foil. Its flavor text casts the Archivist as a loyal keeper of Jace's secrets, a fitting role for a card that decides what everyone else gets to hold.
