Item Description
Jace, Memory Adept is a planeswalker with two plans and both of them end with someone's library in trouble. For five mana he starts at four loyalty. His +1 draws you a card and mills target player one card, a steady trickle of advantage. His 0 mills target player ten cards outright, and his −7 has any number of target players each draw twenty cards.
That gives him a lot of range in Commander. A mill deck can point the 0 at an opponent turn after turn, and with Bruvac the Grandiloquent doubling the mill, each activation sends twenty cards to the graveyard. The ultimate can refill your own hand with twenty cards or force opponents to draw themselves out of a library you have already thinned. He first appeared in Magic 2013 and returned in Magic 2014, a big blue threat for its era.
This is the San Diego Comic-Con 2013 promo printing, part of the convention-exclusive set of Magic 2014 planeswalkers with a dark, blacked-out look. It is a distinctive way to put this Jace in a mill deck and a fun piece of Magic's convention history for promo collectors.
