Magic: The Gathering single: Isochron Scepter, from From the Vault: Relics. Our grade: Lightly Played or better. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.
Item Description
Isochron Scepter turns one cheap instant into a spell you can cast every turn for free. When the two-mana artifact enters, you may imprint an instant with mana value 2 or less from your hand. From then on, pay two and tap the Scepter to copy that instant and cast the copy without paying its mana cost.
The fun is choosing what goes underneath. Imprint Counterspell and you hold up a counter every turn cycle without spending a card; imprint a cheap removal or burn spell and the Scepter becomes a repeating weapon; imprint Orim's Chant and a chosen player can't cast spells that turn. Its most famous partner is Dramatic Reversal: with nonland mana rocks producing three or more mana, the pair untaps everything over and over for as much mana as you like, a combo Commander players have leaned on for years.
This is the From the Vault: Relics printing, collector number 3, illustrated by Chippy. From the Vault: Relics gathered fifteen famous artifacts in a 2010 all-foil collection, so this Scepter comes in foil, a fitting upgrade for a card that first appeared in Mirrodin and has been building combos ever since.
