Item Description
A land that kills people. Inkmoth Nexus taps for colorless mana like any utility land, but for one more mana it becomes a 1/1 flying Phyrexian Blinkmoth artifact creature with infect until end of turn. Infect means its damage lands as -1/-1 counters on creatures and poison counters on players, and ten poison counters ends the game no matter how much life the opponent has.
That is a scary clock hidden in your mana base. Because it is a land until you activate it, it dodges sorcery-speed removal and wrath effects, then flies over for a poison counter at a time. Pump spells and equipment turn that one counter into five or ten in a hurry, which is why it became the backbone of infect decks after debuting in Mirrodin Besieged in 2011. In Commander, poison still kills at ten counters, so a Nexus plus a little pump is a real threat in any proliferate or infect build.
This is the Secret Lair Drop printing, collector number 45, illustrated by Joshua Howard, in non-foil, a fresh look for a land most players have only seen in its original Mirrodin frame.
