Item Description
Superman snaps. That is the gut-punch at the center of Injustice: Gods Among Us, and it gives NetherRealm Studios' DC fighter a story with real weight. After the Joker tricks the Man of Steel into killing Lois Lane and destroying Metropolis, Superman decides nobody but himself can be trusted to keep the peace and builds a worldwide regime to enforce it. Batman leads the resistance, and when the odds turn hopeless he pulls heroes in from another reality, setting up a story mode where Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, the Flash, Aquaman and even the Joker each take a chapter in a world where the line between hero and villain has blurred.
The fighting is built for spectacle. Arenas are packed with objects to use, so a parked car or a chunk of machinery becomes a weapon, and a heavy enough hit sends an opponent crashing through a wall into a brand-new section of the stage. Every fighter has a unique character trait on its own button, the Clash system lets two fighters wager their super meter on a mid-fight showdown, and each super move is a miniature blockbuster; Superman's launches his rival clear out of the atmosphere before driving them back down. The roster pulls from every corner of the DC universe, from Batman, Harley Quinn and Doomsday to Sinestro, Black Adam, Nightwing and Raven.
The Ultimate Edition folds in everything NetherRealm added after launch. Lobo, Batgirl, General Zod, Zatanna, Martian Manhunter and Mortal Kombat's Scorpion join the fight, along with more than 30 extra skins and 60 additional S.T.A.R. Labs missions, the bite-sized challenge scenarios that test what you know about each character and quietly teach you how to play them.
Bringing all of that to a handheld was a serious undertaking. Armature Studio handled the Vita version and pushed the hardware to chase the console game's 60-frames-per-second fighting, adding touch controls to Story Mode and a range of S.T.A.R. Labs missions. Local ad-hoc versus lets two Vita owners settle the Superman-or-Batman argument face to face, and with the whole expanded roster aboard, this is Injustice in its fullest form, sized for a backpack.
