Item Description
Imperial Recruiter is the definition of a toolbox card. For three mana you get a 1/1 Human Advisor, and when it enters you search your library for any creature card with power 2 or less and put it into your hand. Color does not matter and neither does mana value, so the Recruiter can find a combo piece, a utility creature that answers the current board, or a hard-hitting threat with a small body, in whatever colors your deck plays.
Recruiter first appeared in Portal Three Kingdoms in 1999, and Masters 25 brought the old favorite into a modern premium set. It shines with blink and flicker effects that reset its trigger, and with copy effects such as Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker, a 2-power creature the Recruiter can fetch itself. Every extra enters trigger is another tutor, which is why red Commander decks built around a few key creatures love it.
This is the Masters 25 printing, collector number 136, illustrated by Zack Stella, in non-foil. Masters 25 celebrated Magic's twenty-fifth anniversary by gathering cards from across the game's history, and the flavor text sums up the Recruiter's whole approach: "A passionate recruiter will win a war before the first arrow flies."
