Item Description
Two black mana, two random cards gone. Hymn to Tourach makes its target player discard two cards at random, and that randomness is what makes it so feared: there is no choosing which cards to keep, no sandbagging the best spell, and on an early turn it can leave an opponent with almost nothing to work with.
Few disruption spells hit as hard for their cost. In one-on-one games and cube it is a brutal early play, and in older formats it has long been a calling card of black aggro and control decks. Even in multiplayer, ripping two cards out of the most dangerous player's hand at sorcery speed can swing a whole game. The flavor text sets the scene: "The priests plead for your anguish and pray for your despair."
From the Vault: Twenty was the 2013 collection celebrating Magic's 20th anniversary with twenty cards drawn from across its history. This is that printing, collector number 3, a mythic rare illustrated by Greg Staples with fresh art, in foil.
