Item Description
Huatli, the Sun's Heart turns toughness into a weapon. While she is on the battlefield, every creature you control assigns combat damage equal to its toughness instead of its power, so a 0/4 swings for four and a 1/5 hits like a five-power threat. For three mana, with a hybrid green-or-white symbol that fits mono-green, mono-white or Selesnya decks, that is a lot of reach.
She arrives with 7 loyalty and a single minus ability: −3 gains you life equal to the greatest toughness among your creatures, which buys time while her static ability does the real work. She slots neatly beside Doran, the Siege Tower and Arcades, the Strategist in Commander decks stacked with high-toughness creatures, and she makes the defensive bodies already in your deck far more dangerous on the attack.
Huatli first appeared in War of the Spark, the set that put a planeswalker in nearly every booster, mostly uncommon walkers built around static abilities like this one. This is the Secret Lair Drop printing, collector number 530, a foil-only Secret Lair bonus card illustrated by Lius Lasahido.
