Item Description

Shrink a Hot Wheels car down to toy scale, then give it a jump button. Milestone's sequel to Hot Wheels Unleashed keeps the series' bright orange track, loops and boost pads, and adds two moves that change how every race is driven: a hop that clears obstacles and a sideways dash for shoving rivals or snapping onto a better line. Both draw from the same boost meter, so you are constantly deciding whether to spend it on raw speed or on tricks, and either one can rescue a car that is tumbling through the air.

Turbocharged also widens the garage beyond cars, adding motorcycles and ATVs to a big roster of Hot Wheels originals and licensed vehicles, sorted into classes that handle very differently. Drift-focused cars hug the corners, others are built for rougher terrain, and a perk system lets you shape each one further. Coins earned on the track buy new vehicles from a rotating shop, which keeps the collecting itch alive.

The tracks loop through oversized real-world settings, among them a backyard, a golf course and a dinosaur museum, with obstacle races, boss races and elimination events breaking up the standard circuits. The story campaign pits you against giant creatures on the loose, brought to heel by beating them on the track. Then there is the track editor, where you build your own courses with loops, ramps and hazards, plus a livery editor for custom paint jobs.

Critics praised its speed and creativity, and it never pretends to be a simulation. The appeal is toy-box nostalgia with a turbo button: watching a die-cast design you might have raced across the kitchen floor as a kid tear through a loop at full boost, with two-player split screen on hand for couch rivalries. For diecast fans, it is the closest a racing game has come to the orange-track sets of their childhood.
