Complete in box: the disc, the manual and the original case, all original; anything beyond that is included only if you can see it in the photos. For the specifics, look to the photos — they're of this exact item. Discs are professionally resurfaced when they need it and tested before listing. It ships in a collector's bag or a hard plastic case.

Item Description

With a name like Home Run King and Sega on the box, you might expect flaming baseballs and 600-foot moonshots. Instead, Sega's WOW Entertainment studio built a straight-ahead baseball game that leans into the joy of the long ball without abandoning the real sport. It was made exclusively for the GameCube and released only in North America in 2002, with Houston's Jeff Bagwell on the cover.

The batting system is the hook. Before each pitch you can guess what is coming, and the cursor changes shape and color to show your guess, then you pick a power, normal or contact swing to trade hitting area for distance. Pitchers have their own wrinkles: speed is chosen separately from pitch type, and leaning too hard on the same pitch makes it less effective as the game goes on. Batting is forgiving enough that home runs come at a satisfying clip, and each ballpark has its own detailed home run sequence when you send one out. Batting, pitching and fielding aids can be dialed up, down or switched off across five difficulty levels.

Modes cover Exhibition, a full Season with an optional All-Star Game, Playoffs, and a Home Run Derby for up to eight sluggers in tournament-style rounds, which is exactly the kind of thing you want with friends gathered around one GameCube. A two-man broadcast booth and a convincing crack of the bat round out the presentation. As a Nintendo-exclusive, North America-only baseball game from Sega's early multiplatform days, it is a fun and slightly overlooked corner of the GameCube sports library.
