Item Description

Agent 47's most personal job begins with a target he never expected: Diana Burnwood, his longtime handler, who has gone rogue from the Agency. Her dying request leaves him protecting Victoria, a young girl the Agency wants back, and puts him on the run from his own employers. Hitman: Absolution is IO Interactive's most story-driven Hitman, a road movie of a contract that winds from Chicago to the small town of Hope, South Dakota, and into the orbit of arms dealer Blake Dexter and his crew.

The series' core promise of many routes to one target is intact. Disguises still open doors, though anyone wearing the same uniform will grow suspicious of a stranger, so you spend Instinct to keep your face hidden as you pass. Instinct also lets you see enemies through walls and trace their patrol paths, and Point Shooting slows time so you can mark several targets and drop them in one fluid motion. A detailed scoring system tracks every disguise change, body found and civilian harmed, and the Purist difficulty strips the on-screen guidance away for players who want it raw.

The crowds are the showpiece. IO built Absolution on its new Glacier 2 engine, and the King of Chinatown mission, a sandbox set in a packed market square where a crime boss can be poisoned, sniped or quietly arranged out of the picture, became a fan favorite for good reason. David Bateson is back as the voice of 47, giving the dry menace that defines the character. Contracts mode let players build their own hits inside the game's levels and was designed around sharing them online.

Absolution sits between Blood Money and the 2016 World of Assassination reboot, and the Glacier technology it introduced carried forward into those later games. Long-time fans still debate its linear, cinematic structure, which makes it a fascinating chapter to revisit: the Xbox 360 Hitman where IO pushed hardest on story, spectacle and the feeling of a hunted assassin.
