Item Description
Few artifacts carry as much story as Helvault. In the Innistrad saga it was the silver monolith that imprisoned Avacyn and a host of demons, and its shattering set the events of Avacyn Restored in motion. From the Vault: Lore, released in 2016, gathered cards with exactly this kind of history, and Helvault earns its place.
The card plays like a vault too. For one generic mana and a tap, it exiles a creature you control, which can save it from removal or a board wipe; for seven and a tap, it exiles a creature you do not control. Everything stays locked away until Helvault goes to the graveyard from the battlefield, and then every card exiled with it returns under its owner's control. Sacrifice or destroy the Helvault yourself and your stored creatures come back, retriggering any enter-the-battlefield abilities, though anything you took from opponents comes back to them too. It rewards careful timing in casual and Commander games.
