Mr. Peterson has vanished, and suddenly everyone in Raven Brooks is acting suspicious. Hello Neighbor 2 casts you as Quentin, an investigative journalist digging into a string of missing person cases, and turns the original game's single creepy house into a whole town full of locked doors, hidden rooms and residents with something to hide. Developed by Eerie Guest Studios and published by tinyBuild in 2022, it follows the 2017 cult hit with a bigger sandbox and the same unsettling, storybook-cartoon look.
The series' signature is its adaptive AI, and here it watches more than one neighbor. Break into homes and shops, including the town's bakery, and the residents react to how you play, the same cat-and-mouse idea that made the first game's neighbor so unnerving, now spread across several characters. Hovering over all of it is the Guest, a tall, bird-like figure that stalks you through the town and tries to snatch you when you get careless, which leads to a few real jump scares.
The real pleasure is in the puzzles. Combination safes, locked rooms and secret passages need the right item, and the clue to open a door in one house might be sitting in a barn across town. The game is non-linear, letting you pick at the mystery in whatever order you like, so moments of discovery feel earned. Reviews were mixed, with complaints about clunky controls and inconsistent stealth rules, though the environmental puzzles and open structure drew praise.
Hello Neighbor 2 makes a strong match for younger players and puzzle fans who enjoyed the original's sneaky cat-and-mouse tension, and for anyone following the series' strange, sprawling story of Raven Brooks and the man across the street.
