Item Description
Imagine your commander showing up for free, ready to swing, without spending a single extra mana of commander tax. Hellkite Courser makes that happen. The 6/5 flying Dragon enters, and you may put a commander you own from the command zone onto the battlefield; it gains haste and heads back to the command zone at the beginning of the next end step.
Because the commander is put onto the battlefield rather than cast, its tax stays where it was, and you still collect everything it does on arrival and in combat. Commanders with enter-the-battlefield effects, attack triggers or a big activated ability get a bonus turn of action, and an expensive or heavily taxed commander gets back into play without paying its cost at all. You keep a large flying body behind afterward, which is not a bad consolation prize.
Commander Legends, released in 2020, was the first draft set designed around Commander, and this mythic is one of the cards that most directly celebrates the format. This is the Commander Legends extended-art printing, collector number 666, illustrated by Caio Monteiro, in non-foil, with the artwork stretching past the usual frame to the card's side edges.
