Item Description
Haunter is the middle step in one of Pokémon's best-loved ghost lines, the bridge from Gastly to Gengar, and this Triumphant card plays like a mischievous trickster. Sneaky Placement costs just one Psychic Energy and puts 2 damage counters on any of your opponent's Pokémon, letting you soften a Benched threat or finish off a damaged attacker. Sleep Poison, for two Colorless Energy, leaves the Defending Pokémon both Asleep and Poisoned.
It is a Stage 1 Psychic Pokémon with 70 HP and no Retreat Cost, so it can slip in and out of the Active Spot freely. The Pokédex entry on the card is wonderfully creepy, describing a tongue made of gas whose touch leaves its victims shaking. Triumphant was the closing set of the HeartGold & SoulSilver era, which gives this Haunter a nice place in a vintage-era ghost binder.
This is the Triumphant printing, collector number 35/102, an uncommon illustrated by Takashi Yamaguchi, offered here in reverse holofoil.
