Item Description
Few cards translate a fighting-game special move into Magic as cleanly as this one. Lightning Bolt has been dealing 3 damage to any target for a single red mana since Magic's very first set in 1993, and Secret Lair's Street Fighter collaboration printed it under the name Hadoken, the fireball Ryu and Ken have been throwing since the series began.
The rules are a single line, and that's the appeal. As an instant it can hit a creature, a player, a planeswalker or a battle whenever you have priority, so it kills an attacker mid-combat, finishes off a planeswalker or burns an opponent out at the end of their turn. For one mana it's the yardstick every red burn spell gets measured against, and it earns a slot in cubes, red Commander decks and casual burn piles alike. Flavor-wise, a projectile that fits in your hand and can be thrown at anything is about as Hadoken as a Magic card gets.
This is the Secret Lair Drop printing, collector number 675, a borderless foil illustrated by Jason Rainville, released in 2022 as the bonus card of the Secret Lair x Street Fighter drop. The card is printed with the name Hadoken, and its rules name is Lightning Bolt.
