Item Description
Melinoë is not trying to escape the Underworld. She was raised in secret at the Crossroads by the witch Hecate, and her mission runs the other way: hunt down Chronos, the Titan of Time, who has seized her father's realm and imprisoned her family. That reversal sets the tone for Hades II, a sequel that keeps everything Supergiant Games got right with the award-winning Hades and pulls the roguelike into darker, witchier territory.
Each run starts with a choice of Nocturnal Arms, among them the Witch's Staff, the Sister Blades, the Umbral Flames and the Moonstone Axe, and every weapon carries powerful Omega moves fueled by Melinoë's Magick. Olympian Boons reshape your build as you go, with Zeus, Poseidon and Aphrodite joined by newcomers such as Hestia, Hera, Apollo and Hephaestus, while the moon goddess Selene grants devastating Hexes. Melinoë's Cast, a binding circle that pins enemies in place, gives the combat a deliberate, spell-slinging rhythm that feels distinct from her brother Zagreus's headlong style.
Then the game splits in two. One route plunges through Erebus, the drowned depths of Oceanus, the Fields of Mourning and Tartarus toward Chronos himself; the other climbs to the surface through the city of Ephyra and the Rift of Thessaly to Mount Olympus, where the gods are under siege. Between attempts the Crossroads grows into a living home: Arcana cards set your permanent bonuses, Incantations brewed at the cauldron unlock new features, and a cast of gods, shades and monsters, Odysseus, Nemesis and Dora among them, has something new to say after nearly every run.
Darren Korb's score swings from haunting, folk-tinged ballads to pounding rock, and the voice work matches the first game's high bar. After a long early-access period on PC, the full release arrived in September 2025 with the Switch family among its launch platforms, earning review scores in the mid-to-high 90s and Best Action Game at The Game Awards 2025. Runs are short enough for a lunch break and compelling enough to swallow a weekend, which makes a Nintendo handheld the perfect home for Melinoë's war on time.
