Item Description
Grim Hireling works for gold, and it pays you in Treasure. This four-mana Tiefling Rogue from Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate creates two Treasure tokens whenever one or more creatures you control deal combat damage to a player. It doesn't have to be the one dealing damage, so any evasive creature, Rogue or token army can keep the coins flowing every turn.
Then it puts that money to work. For one black mana, you can sacrifice any number of Treasures to give a target creature -X/-X until end of turn, where X is the number you sacrificed, at sorcery speed. Spend the Treasure on ramp when the board is quiet, or cash it in to remove a blocker or an opposing commander when it matters. That flexibility makes it a favorite in Treasure, pirate, Rogue and black aggro decks in Commander, where hitting several opponents means more chances to get paid.
Its Baldur's Gate setting adds a little Dungeons & Dragons flavor too: a hired blade whose loyalty lasts exactly as long as the gold does. This is the Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate printing, collector number 755, illustrated by Tomas Duchek, in non-foil.
