Magic: The Gathering single: Grenzo, Dungeon Warden. Our grade: Near Mint. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.
“CAN BE BRIBED. CAN'T BE TRUSTED.” The case file says it all. This Grenzo, Dungeon Warden comes from the Showcase: Murders at Karlov Manor Secret Lair, which presents the goblin jailer in the dossier frame from Magic's detective-themed set, like a suspect profile pulled from an investigator's desk.
Grenzo first appeared in Conspiracy, and he has been a Commander favorite for black-red players who like their value strange. You choose how big he enters by paying X, and he arrives with that many +1/+1 counters. From then on, every two mana you spare lets you put the bottom card of your library into your graveyard, and if it's a creature card with power less than or equal to Grenzo's, it goes straight onto the battlefield instead. Bigger Grenzo, bigger free creatures.
The bottom of the library is usually a dead zone, which makes Grenzo a puzzle worth solving: effects that put cards on the bottom of your library, graveyard synergies for the misses, and pump effects that raise his power all turn him into a steady stream of free bodies. This is the Secret Lair Drop printing from Showcase: Murders at Karlov Manor, collector number 1569★, illustrated by Alex Stone in the dossier showcase frame, in rainbow foil.
