“A monster appeared! With a foul claw, it snatched the child and disappeared into the depths of the castle!” That flavor text sounds like the opening of an old console RPG, and that is exactly the point: this Greed comes from Li'l Giri Saves the Day, a Secret Lair that retells classic black cards as a retro adventure-game story.
Underneath the playful presentation is one of black's oldest card-draw engines, first printed in Legends. For four mana, Greed lets you pay one black mana and 2 life to draw a card, at instant speed and as many times as you can afford. That makes it a flexible mana sink: hold up interaction on your opponent's turn, and if you don't need it, convert the leftover black mana into cards at the end step. In Commander, a 40-point life total turns Greed into a long-running refuel engine, and decks that gain life back through lifelink or drain effects can keep the tap open almost indefinitely.
