Item Description
When your biggest creature is about to die anyway, Greater Good lets you cash it in for cards. The four-mana green enchantment has one activated ability: sacrifice a creature to draw cards equal to its power, then discard three cards. Sacrifice a 7-power creature and you dig seven cards deep, keeping the best and sending the rest to the graveyard.
That discard is often a feature rather than a cost. Reanimator and graveyard decks love dumping big creatures and flashback spells into the yard, and the ability can be activated at instant speed in response to removal, so an opponent's kill spell turns into a fresh hand. Commander decks built around large creatures, sacrifice synergies or recursion have relied on it since its debut in Urza's Saga.
This is the Secret Lair Drop printing, collector number 1087, illustrated by Volta Creation, in foil. It belongs to a Universes Beyond Transformers crossover, with flavor text in Optimus Prime's voice about the Matrix lighting the Autobots' darkest hour, a fitting note for a card about sacrifice for the greater good.
