Item Description
Nobody hard-casts a ten-mana 9/7, and Greater Gargadon never asks you to. Pay one red mana to suspend it with ten time counters, and it ticks down each turn on its own. The real fun is its activated ability: while it is suspended, you may sacrifice an artifact, creature, or land to remove a time counter. Feed it enough and a 9/7 Beast crashes in far ahead of schedule, with haste from suspend.
That ability doubles as a free, instant-speed sacrifice outlet sitting in exile where most removal can't touch it. Sacrifice a creature in response to removal, cash in borrowed or stolen creatures before they return, trigger death payoffs, or throw away lands you no longer need. Aristocrats and artifact-sacrifice decks get an engine and a finisher in one card. It first appeared in Time Spiral, the set that introduced suspend.
This is the Double Masters 2022 etched foil printing, collector number 453, illustrated by Rob Alexander. Alexander, best known for his sweeping landscapes, gives the hulking Beast a sense of real scale.
