Item Description
Nothing deflates a big turn like a last-second counterspell. Grand Abolisher takes that option off the table: during your turn, your opponents can't cast spells or activate abilities of artifacts, creatures, or enchantments. No instant-speed removal on your attackers, no flash blockers, no responses to your board wipe or your combo piece. You get to play your turn exactly the way you planned it.
That is why this two-mana Human Cleric shows up so often in Commander, especially in decks building toward one decisive turn. Land and planeswalker abilities still work, and the lock lifts on your opponents' turns, so Grand Abolisher is about protecting your window rather than locking anyone out of the game. Its only real weakness is its 2/2 body, which makes it a lightning rod for removal on everyone else's turn, a fair trade for the turns it does survive.
