Our grade: Near Mint. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.
Item Description
Every Commander table has a player leaning on lifegain, and Gríma Wormtongue simply tells them no. Rohan's scheming counselor is a three-mana black legend whose static ability stops your opponents from gaining life at all, switching off lifelink, Soul Warden-style triggers and recovery spells for as long as he stays on the battlefield.
His second ability is where the poison drips. Tap Gríma and sacrifice another creature, and a target player loses 1 life; if the creature you fed him was legendary, you also amass Orcs 2, growing your Orc Army or creating one. Chump blockers, expiring tokens and creatures about to die anyway become a steady drain, and in a Lord of the Rings deck stuffed with legends he builds an army while he bleeds the table. A 1/4 body also holds the ground nicely while aristocrats and sacrifice decks do their work.
This is the Secret Lair Drop printing, collector number 734, a foil released in 2023 as a Secret Lair bonus card, with artwork credited to Bakshi Productions, the studio behind Ralph Bakshi's 1978 animated The Lord of the Rings. It carries the painterly, hand-animated look of that cult film onto Middle-earth's most notorious advisor, a lovely conversation piece for Tolkien collectors as well as black players.
