Item Description

Golden Sun: The Lost Age is the direct sequel to Camelot's original Golden Sun and widely regarded as the more expansive, fully realized half of the duology. Released for the Game Boy Advance in Japan in 2002 and in North America in 2003, it picks up where the first game left off and turns the story around, following Felix, an eighteen-year-old Venus Adept from Vale, and the party the first game cast as its antagonists as they set out to light the remaining Elemental Lighthouses. Players who finished the original could carry their characters and items forward by password or Game Link Cable, a feature that felt remarkable for a handheld RPG of its era.

The world is far more open this time. Much of the adventure is spent sailing a magical ship across a wide sea to new continents and islands, with hidden Djinn to track down and many objectives that can be tackled in whatever order you choose. The Psynergy system is on full display and at its most inventive: elemental abilities are not just combat tools but puzzle-solving instruments threaded through every temple and overworld interaction, with new Psynergy to find along the way. The Djinn system adds strategic depth to battles that rewards experimentation, letting you mix and match elemental spirits to reshape your characters' stats or unleash powerful Summons at the cost of a few turns of their bonus. It is the kind of RPG that respects your intelligence and keeps revealing new wrinkles the longer you play.

Visually, The Lost Age pushed the GBA hardware with lush environments, fluid battle animations and summon sequences that are still impressive in context. Motoi Sakuraba's score is atmospheric and sweeping, the kind of soundtrack that sticks with you long after the credits roll. The writing leans into classic JRPG territory while giving Felix's perspective a genuine moral weight that made fans see the events of the first game in a new light, and it remains one of the best RPGs on the system and the essential second half of the Golden Sun story.
