Item Description

For a generation of Game Boy Advance owners, Golden Sun was the RPG that defined the system. Developed by Camelot Software Planning and released in 2001, it brought a level of visual ambition and storytelling depth to Nintendo's handheld that felt closer to a console RPG than anything players expected to carry in their pocket. The world of Weyard, with its elemental lore, ancient ruins and conflicted heroes, pulls you in from the storm-lashed night that opens the story in the village of Vale and doesn't let go.

At the heart of the design is the Djinn system, one of the most inventive takes on elemental magic in any handheld RPG. These small creatures of Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Mercury are hidden throughout the world, and collecting them changes how your party plays: set Djinn on a character to reshape their class, unleash them in battle for powerful effects, then call down summons with the ones left on standby. Every new Djinn invites experimentation, and it gives the game a layer of strategy that keeps you thinking beyond the next dungeon.

Psynergy isn't only for combat, either. Isaac, Garet, Ivan and Mia carry their powers into the field, using Move to shift pillars, Mind Read to peek into villagers' thoughts and abilities such as Frost and Growth to open new paths, which turns dungeons into clever environmental puzzles. Golden Sun pushed the hardware harder than almost anything else on the platform, with detailed sprite work, rich environments and spell animations that look spectacular on the small screen, all carried by Motoi Sakuraba's sweeping score, which gives the adventure a sense of scale to match its ambitions.

The story follows Isaac and his companions as they pursue Saturos and Menardi, who have stolen the Elemental Stars in a bid to light the lighthouses and unleash the lost power of Alchemy, and it builds to one of the era's most talked-about cliffhangers. The tale continues directly in The Lost Age, and a password system lets you carry your party's progress into the sequel, which makes this first cartridge the place every journey across Weyard has to begin.
