Item Description
Goblin Welder doesn't destroy artifacts; it swaps them. For one red mana, this 1/1 taps to choose an artifact a player controls and an artifact card in that same player's graveyard, and if both are still legal targets when the ability resolves, the two trade places at the same time: the one on the battlefield is sacrificed and the one in the graveyard returns.
That simple trick opens up a surprising amount of mischief. Discard or mill a huge artifact, then weld it into play in exchange for a cheap trinket or a used-up artifact token. You can also point it at an opponent, swapping their best artifact for whatever junk is sitting in their own graveyard. Welder first appeared in Urza's Legacy and has been the engine of artifact-reanimation decks ever since, and in Commander it is a fantastic fit for any red artifact deck that likes recycling its toys.
