Magic: The Gathering single: Goblin Lackey, from From the Vault: Exiled. Our grade: Lightly Played or better. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.
Item Description
Some cards earn a reputation, and Goblin Lackey earned enough of one to be invited into From the Vault: Exiled, a 2009 collection built entirely from cards with a history on Magic's banned and restricted lists. Few one-drops have ever looked so harmless while threatening so much.
The threat is simple. Whenever Lackey deals damage to a player, you may put a Goblin permanent card from your hand onto the battlefield, no mana required. Play it on turn one, attack on turn two, and your hand's biggest Goblin can arrive turns ahead of its curve. Siege-Gang Commander, Krenko, Mob Boss or a lord to pump the rest of the team are all fair game. That turns every early attack into a dilemma for the defending player, and it gives Goblin decks in Commander or casual play an exciting way to skip straight to the good part.
This is the From the Vault: Exiled printing, collector number 5, with new art by Christopher Moeller, in foil, as every card in the From the Vault series was. Its flavor text has a wonderful deadpan streak: "At the first sign of enemy scouts, Jula grinned and strapped on his diplomacy helmet."
