Item Description
Goblin Engineer is a two-mana Goblin Artificer with a surprisingly clever toolkit. When it enters, you may search your library for any artifact card and put it into your graveyard. Then, for one red mana, you can tap it and sacrifice an artifact to return an artifact card with mana value 3 or less from your graveyard to the battlefield.
That first ability is the exciting one: it is a tutor that sets up whatever artifact your deck wants in the graveyard, ready for other cards to bring back. Goblin Welder, for instance, can swap a cheap artifact on the battlefield for the expensive one Engineer just binned. The second ability turns spare artifacts like Treasures and Clues into returns of your best cheap artifacts. In Commander, artifact and red graveyard decks find a lot to love in a 1/2 that does this much work.
This is the Time Spiral Remastered printing from 2021, collector number 345, illustrated by Jehan Choo, in non-foil. It belongs to that set's special timeshifted sheet, which reprinted cards in Magic's classic retro frame, so this modern goblin gets a look straight out of the 1990s.
