Magic: The Gathering single: Glacial Chasm, from From the Vault: Realms. Our grade: Lightly Played or better. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.
Glacial Chasm turns your side of the table into a frozen fortress. While it is on the battlefield, all damage that would be dealt to you is prevented and your own creatures can't attack. The price is steep: you sacrifice a land when it enters, and it has a cumulative upkeep of 2 life, so the cost climbs every turn you keep it.
Used well, it is a dramatic stall card. Drop it when an opponent is about to swing for lethal and their entire attack deals nothing to you; let it go when the life cost grows too high, or bounce and replay it to reset the age counters. Control, pillow-fort and land-recursion decks love that kind of tool, and in Commander it can buy exactly the turns you need to finish a combo or reset the board.
This is the From the Vault: Realms printing, collector number 7, illustrated by Mike Bierek, in foil. From the Vault: Realms was a 2012 all-lands collection, and Glacial Chasm, first printed in Ice Age, earns its place there as a land that plays like almost nothing else in the game.
