Item Description
In the Kanto games, Giovanni is the boss twice over: leader of Team Rocket and the Gym Leader waiting in Viridian City. Gym Challenge, released in 2000 as the second Gym expansion, put him on a holo Trainer card built entirely around his own Pokémon.
Play Giovanni and choose one of your Pokémon in play with Giovanni in its name. For the rest of your turn you can evolve it even if you just played it, just evolved it, or it is your first turn, and that freedom carries over to whatever it evolves into. In practice, that means rushing one of Giovanni's Pokémon from Basic to its final Stage in a single turn, exactly the kind of ruthless shortcut you would expect from the Rocket boss.
This is the Gym Challenge printing, collector number 18/132, illustrated by Ken Sugimori, in holofoil. A holo Trainer starring Team Rocket's leader makes a natural centerpiece for a Gym-era binder, and it pairs nicely with cards such as Giovanni's Persian for anyone building a Giovanni collection.
