Item Description
Gilded Goose looks like the most modest card in a green deck: a 0/2 flier for one mana. Then you notice it arrives holding a Food token, and that it can sacrifice Food for one mana of any color. On turn one it is acceleration that fixes your colors; by midgame it is a Food factory, since it can tap with two mana to make another Food.
That combination makes it a natural fit for Food decks in Commander, where every Food can become life, mana or fuel for payoffs that care about artifacts and sacrifices. It also slots into artifact and token strategies that want cheap, sacrificeable permanents around, and the 3 life each Food can provide gives lifegain triggers something to work with. A one-drop that keeps finding new jobs as the game goes on earns its slot every game.
This is the Secret Lair Drop printing, collector number 93, illustrated by Allen Douglas, in non-foil. Douglas's art offers a fresh look at the goose compared with its Throne of Eldraine debut, a nice upgrade for a deck that plays it every time.
