Item Description
Gifts Ungiven is a puzzle you hand to your opponent. You search your library for up to four cards with different names, then they choose two to send to your graveyard while the other two go to your hand. Build the pile well and every split is bad news for them, whether you are pairing reanimation targets with the spells that bring them back or gathering recursion pieces that work from either zone.
It also hides a classic trick. Search for only two cards and your opponent has to choose both, sending them straight to the graveyard, which makes Gifts an instant-speed way to stock your yard for flashback, reanimation and other graveyard strategies. Cast at the end of an opponent's turn, it gives blue graveyard decks in Commander and cube exactly the setup they want while keeping mana open until the last moment.
This is the From the Vault: Exiled printing, collector number 4, illustrated by D. Alexander Gregory, in foil. Exiled was a 2009 all-foil collection of cards that had been banned or restricted at some point in Magic's history, and Gifts Ungiven, first printed in Champions of Kamigawa, took its place in that infamous lineup.
