Item Description
Few planeswalkers do as much for four mana as Gideon, Ally of Zendikar, so it is fitting that he was part of the San Diego Comic-Con 2016 planeswalker box set. This is that convention printing, collector number 29, illustrated by Eric Deschamps, in foil.
His three abilities each solve a different problem. The 0 creates a 2/2 white Knight Ally token every single turn, building a board that defends him while it grows. The +1 turns Gideon himself into a 5/5 indestructible creature that takes no damage that turn, ready to swing when the path is open. And his −4 can be used the moment he lands to earn an emblem that gives every creature you control +1/+1 for the rest of the game, a permanent anthem that can't be destroyed.
That flexibility makes him a fine leader for token, Knight and white aggro decks in Commander, and convention promos give a planeswalker collection a version with a story behind it. This one plays identically to the Battle for Zendikar original, so it is as at home in a deck as it is in a binder.
