Item Description
Geralf's Messenger is the zombie that keeps delivering bad news. Three black mana buys a 3/2 that enters tapped and makes target opponent lose 2 life, and thanks to undying, the first time it dies it comes right back with a +1/+1 counter and drains them for 2 more.
That's 4 life lost and two bodies from a single card before opponents even get to deal with a 4/3. It slots naturally into mono-black Zombie and aristocrats decks, where sacrifice outlets turn undying into a repeatable engine: anything that removes the +1/+1 counter, or cancels it with a -1/-1 counter, lets the Messenger die and return again and again, draining an opponent every time.
This is the Secret Lair Drop printing, collector number 9997, illustrated by Chris Seaman, in foil. Its flavor text sums up Innistrad's master stitcher Geralf in three words: The message is “Run.”
