Some removal spells ask what kind of problem you have. Generous Gift doesn't care. Three mana at instant speed destroys any permanent on the battlefield, and the only cost is that the permanent's controller gets a 3/3 green Elephant token.
Commander players lean on it for exactly that reason: one white card answers an opposing commander, an artifact engine, an enchantment, a planeswalker or a utility land. The Elephant rarely matters next to the threat you just removed, and instant speed lets you wait for the perfect moment, whether that's an opponent's end step or in response to a game-winning play.
