This Limited Collector's Edition comes in its original tin packaging with the outer plastic sleeve. The outer plastic sleeve has a tear, visible in the photos. Look over the photos for condition, packaging and details. Discs are professionally resurfaced when they need it and tested before listing. It ships in a collector's bag or a hard plastic case.

Gears of War opens with Marcus Fenix sitting in a cell in a crumbling prison, until his old friend Dom Santiago shows up to break him out because humanity needs every soldier it has left. Within minutes you are sprinting between broken pillars as the Locust Horde pours out of the ground, and by the end of that first act it is clear why this 2006 release from Epic Games became the game people bought an Xbox 360 for.

The cover system is the heart of it. Marcus snaps to walls, rubble and doorways, pops out to fire, and roadie-runs between positions with the camera shaking at his shoulder. Active Reload turns even reloading into a skill: tap at the right moment for a damage boost, miss and the gun jams at the worst possible time. And then there is the Lancer, an assault rifle with a chainsaw bayonet that became the defining image of a console generation. The five-act campaign moves through the ruined cities of the planet Sera, where nightfall unleashes the swarming Kryll, a blind Berserker hunts you by sound alone, and the mission to deploy the Lightmass Bomb ends in a showdown with General RAAM.

It was built for two. The full campaign plays in co-op, including split-screen on one console, and it was one of the great couch experiences of its era, with one player covering while the other flanks. Competitive play centered on the Gnasher shotgun and tight, brutal maps, and its versus matches set the tone for the series' multiplayer for years. Unreal Engine 3 gave Sera its heavy, decaying grandeur, and the haunting Mad World television ad turned the launch into a cultural event before the game took a stack of Game of the Year honors.

The Limited Collector's Edition was the premium launch version, dressed in metal tin packaging that set it apart from the standard green case on store shelves. It is the version a Gears fan would want to represent where Marcus, Dom and the war against the Locust began, and it carries the launch-day energy of the game that defined the Xbox 360.

Gears of War is a third-person shooter built around a cover system, where players duck behind obstacles and use tactical fire to advance on enemies. The signature weapon is an assault rifle fitted with a chainsaw bayonet, and a timed reload mechanic can grant a brief damage bonus or jam the gun if mistimed. The five-act campaign can be played solo or in two-player co-op, and a competitive multiplayer mode supports up to eight players split between the two factions. It was the first game in the Gears of War series and helped popularize the modern cover-based shooter, later receiving remastered versions.
